What is a league?

A league is a time-boxed trading competition between multiple users. Each participant enrolls a portfolio, and whoever grows their portfolio the most during the league window takes the top prize. Leagues are the primary social loop on MongoTrader — they turn paper trading into a direct head-to-head contest with real stakes (in $MON).

Every league is independent: your league portfolio doesn't affect your regular portfolios, and league standings don't affect your personal profile stats.

Browse leagues

Head to the Leagues page. You'll see three tabs:

  • Browse — all public leagues, filterable by status, entry fee, timeframe, and name.
  • My Leagues — leagues you're currently enrolled in or have finished.
  • Invites — private leagues you've been invited to by friends.

Each league card shows the name, prize pool, entry fee, participant count, current status (not started, live, ended), and the league window.

Entry requirements

Leagues can require any of:

  • Entry fee in $MON, added to the prize pool.
  • Starting-balance cap — a maximum portfolio balance at entry, for fairness.
  • Tier requirement — some leagues restrict to Premium or Max only.
  • Invitation — private leagues only admit invited users.
  • Symbol restrictions — some leagues limit trading to specific asset classes or tickers.

Check before you commit

Entry fees are non-refundable once the league starts. Check the entry rules before joining — they're listed on the league detail page.

Cash (USD) leagues & location

Most leagues pay out in $MON (virtual currency). A few are cash-prize leagues with a real USD prize pool. Because real money is involved, cash leagues are restricted:

  • US-only, eligible states — you must be physically located in a US state where paid contests are permitted.
  • Location sharing required — when you enter (or re-enter, or withdraw), your browser or the app asks to share your location so we can confirm your state. You have to allow it.

If a cash league won't let you in, it's usually one of:

  • Location access was denied — turn on location sharing for the site/app and try again.
  • Not in an eligible state — cash leagues aren't available in your state yet.
  • Outside the US — cash leagues are US-only.
  • VPN/proxy detected — your network location doesn't match your device location; turn off any VPN and retry.

$MON leagues never ask for your location

The geofence only applies to real-cash (USD) leagues. Virtual ($MON) leagues — the vast majority — have no location requirement.

Join a league

  1. Click "Join" on the league detail page.
  2. Pick a portfolio to enroll. You can either select an existing portfolio (subject to the league's starting-balance cap) or create a new portfolio just for the league.
  3. Confirm the entry fee. If there's a $MON entry fee it's deducted from your wallet immediately.
  4. Wait for the league to go live (if it hasn't already). You can't trade on the enrolled portfolio until the league officially starts.

Re-entering (reset to 0%)

Off to a rough start? You can re-enter a league you're already in to reset your performance back to 0% at your portfolio's current value — a clean slate from that moment on. You can re-enter with the same portfolio or switch to a different one you own.

  • When — only while the league is open or live (before it locks for the final stretch). Once locked or closed, re-entry is unavailable.
  • Cost — re-entering charges the full entry fee again, added to the prize pool, just like your first entry.
  • Limit — up to 3 re-entries per league, with a 5-minute wait between each.
  • Final-stretch lockout — re-entry closes for the last ~20% of the trading window, so nobody can reset at the buzzer.
  • Not for Crypto Pick Three — those leagues don't support re-entry.

Re-entering wipes your league performance

Resetting to 0% discards your gains and losses so far in that league — you compete from zero as of the moment you re-enter, for the same entry fee paid again. There's no undo.

During the competition

Once a league is live, trade normally on your enrolled portfolio. You can use any order type supported on the platform, including leverage if your tier supports it and the league permits it.

The league detail page shows:

  • Live leaderboard — all participants ranked by current portfolio value.
  • Your current rank and percentile.
  • Time remaining in the league window.
  • League chat — trash-talk, strategy sharing, and announcements.
Your league portfolio is frozen from deletion, reset, and cash top-ups until the league ends. This keeps the competition fair.

Scoring and ranking

Ranking is based on total portfolio value — cash plus the current mark-to-market value of all positions. This is recalculated continuously so the leaderboard stays live.

A few rules that keep things consistent:

  • Open positions are marked at the current market price.
  • Leveraged positions count at their full market value minus the implicit margin loan.
  • When the league ends, all remaining open positions are valued at the final mark — no forced close.
  • Ties at the final mark split the prize share for that bracket.

Prize payouts

Prize pools come from entry fees (plus any bonus $MON the league creator seeds). Payout structures are defined when the league is created. Common structures:

  • Winner-takes-all — first place gets the entire pool.
  • Top 3 — split 50/30/20 between the top three.
  • Top 10% — spread across the top 10% of participants on a declining curve.
  • Custom — defined at league creation.

When the league ends, prize $MON is automatically credited to winners' wallets. You don't need to do anything to claim.

Creating your own league

From the Leagues page, click "Create League" and configure:

  • Name and description
  • Start and end time
  • Entry fee in $MON (or free)
  • Starting balance cap for enrolled portfolios
  • Payout structure — pick from presets or define your own
  • Public or private — private leagues only accept invited users
